One-year delay proposed for MDR Implementation

One-year delay proposed for MDR Implementation

The European Commission issued a statement this week, 25th March 2020, that they are working on a proposal to postpone the implementation of the Medical Device Regulation (MDR) for one year. The proposal will be reviewed by the European Parliament next month and the postponement could be granted as soon as next month, April 2020.

The reason for this has been stated as relieving competent authorities, notified bodies and manufacturers of the pressures of coping with COVID-19.

If granted it should then become clearer about what this means for all.

Until the EU rules have formally changed, Mi3 are continuing to conduct MDR readiness activities in line with the current agreed implementation date of 26th May 2020.
